Interviewing & Job Searching
Social Networking, Your First Impression

More than ever before, everything you do on the Web plays a part in whether
or not you land your perfect career.  With the accessibility of the Internet in
offices around the world, many employers and HR representatives are taking
the hiring process a step further in order to single out the best candidate for the
position.  With a few simple keystrokes and a click of the mouse, anyone can
type in a search of your name and instantly bring up pages with information,
pictures, and videos of you, your family, and your friends.  Social websites like
Facebook and Twitter may be a fun way for you to connect with people, but
remember, unless you and the people you know have restricted the public's
access to profile pages, videos, and pictures of you, all of that information will
be easily available to anyone who
Googles your name, including a future
employer.  Be careful not to allow any inappropriate content to be shared over
the Web, and regularly search your name to find out what information is
circulating so you can keep your resume at the top of the stack and avoid
getting it thrown into the bottom of the trash.
Here are some sites that can help
improve your networking and,
who knows, may lead you to job
opportunities that might not be
posted on websites or in your local
newspaper -
